EFCA Activities

EFCA Members and Committees

EFCA is a Federation of National Associations. Members attending EFCA meetings represent their country association, not their company. EFCA develops a European consensus on admixture related issues. These are then promoted at local level with national standards organisations and other national concrete organisations including those for ready mix, precast and National Concrete Platforms. At European level they are promoted at CEN, CEPMC and at the European Concrete Platform (ECP).

Technical and Environmental work

EFCA has separate committees covering this important work and further information can be found on the COMMITTEE page of the main menu.

Publications

EFCA has produced a number of publications covering EPD (Environmental Product Declarations) technical matters such as Self-Compacting concrete and Environmental reports. These publications are available as free downloads and can be found on the ‘PUBLICATIONS’ page of the main menu. There is also some basic information on admixture types which can be found on the 'ADMIXTURES' page of the main menu.

National Admixture News

Several of the National Admixture Associations have an English Language page on their web sites. Use the links on the ‘MEMBERS’ pages of this web site.

The European Concrete Platform

EFCA is a member of the European Concrete Platform (ECP), a group of key European concrete related associations who co-operate in studying and promoting all aspects of concrete for construction. The ECP aims to promote concrete as the material of choice providing building solutions for sustainable development and sustainable construction. The ECP helps to co-ordinate work on EU, EC and CEN issues of mutual interest. The main areas of focus include: Sustainable Construction; Fires Safety Engineering; Common Language Toolbox for Sustainable Construction; Health, Safety and  the Environmental issues incorporating Life Cycle information, REACH, Dangerous Substances legislation. The ECP is also a Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign Associate. The Sustainable Energy Europe 2005-2008 Campaign is a European Commission initiative in the framework of the Intelligent Energy - Europe (2003-2006) programme, which aims to raise public awareness and promote sustainable energy production and use among individuals and organisations, private companies and public authorities, professional and energy agencies, industry associations and NGOs across Europe.

Key ECP publications are available as free downloads and can be found on the Publications’ page

CEPMC

This organisation is the main focus for exchange of information between the construction industry and the European Commission. EFCA are associate members and contribute to a number of their relevant committees and mirror groups.

CEN

EFCA is active on several technical committees including TC104/SC3 for admixtures where an EFCA member is chairman. Most of the admixture standards are now published as harmonised standards at AoC level 2+. The Admixture committee is currently amending the standards to take account of changes in the industry and other standards that have occurred during the 5 years since they were first released. It is also working with other CEN TC’s to include additional requirements that may result from the legislation on ‘construction products in contact with drinking water’ and ‘release of regulated dangerous substances’.
